Preparation of files for translation and
respective translation
This is a crucial stage that precedes the actual translation. Official documents are often presented in PDF or image format and have a complex and demanding layout that requires excellent command and extensive experience with MS Word. The Word file must be optimized for translation and for the translation tool, so that the translation is fast, error-free, and consistent. The most common problems with these documents are as follows: compromised/difficult readability, handwritten text, overlapping text, text presented vertically and/or in a circular form, misaligned text, stamps and seals with text inside, presence of more than one language and/or different fonts, watermarks, problematic tables with symbols inside the cells, file protected against editing (OCR does not work).
Transcription and translation
Transcription/typing of handwritten texts
Sample image
Transcription consists of transcribing the handwritten text that appears in older official documents, usually from notaries and registries, among other bodies, using voice recognition technology in the language of the source text. To understand this type of text, which is usually very cursive, it is often necessary to consult other complementary documents that are part of the set to be translated (if any) in order to decipher the handwriting. Once this step is complete, the document can be translated.
Notarization
Notarial certification of the translation before a
Notary Public
Visit a notary to certify the document. In Portugal, there are no sworn translators, so translation certifications must be carried out by a notary or lawyer who issues a certificate with the translator's details and signature, thus making them responsible for the translation. The price of the service includes the translation, notarial certification, travel, and postal costs (domestic delivery, if applicable). IMPORTANT NOTE: The price of the certificate is per document and the price of the translation is according to the quote (upon request).
